2018 Election: I will Contest to Complete my First Regime – Fayose

Confusion as Fayose removes PDP logo from campaign office, billboards

Governor Ayodele Fayose said he would contest the 2018 gubernatorial election. Fayose said he is contesting so that he could serve his term which was truncated in 2006. The Supreme Court in 2014 nullified Fayose's impeachment about seven months to the end of his first term Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state on Monday, May 22, said he would contest the 2018 gubernatorial election ‎so that he could serve his term which was truncated in 2006. Fayose speaking on a live broadcast on Ekiti State Television in Ado-Ekiti on Monday evening, explained why he chose to put his photo on campaign posters.

The governor said that since the apex court had said that his impeachment in 2006 was illegal, he would then have to approach the same court to interpret what that ruling means and also consider seeking a re-election in 2018. He said: “The Continuity poster you see my image in and which is spreading across the state can be interpreted in two ways. 

First is the need for me to ask the apex court to explain its 2014 ruling that my so-called impeachment in 2014 was ‎illegal, null and void and consider a re-election in 2018 so that I can complete my term. “Second is for me to get our own man, one who is like Ayo Fayose to continue after my tenure in 2018.” It would be recalled that Fayose was impeached in 2006. 

The Supreme Court in 2014 nullified the impeachment that ousted him from office about seven months to the end of his first term. Earlier Fayose reiterated his desire to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) if Senator Ali Modu Sheriff wins at the Supreme Court as part of his strategy for 2018.

In our previous report, Fayose removed the logo and name of PDP from his campaign office at Olora junction, Adebayo, Ado-Ekiti. The one storey building was repainted white, with every insignia of PDP removed.


Before repainting, the building had Fayose’s picture embossed on PDP logo with the inscription: “Fayose Our Leader, Architect of Modern Ekiti." The billboard, with Fayose’s portrait, reads: “Ekiti 2018: Support Continuity, Fayose Leads, We Follow. Again, It’s Going To Be 16-0.
