Court Sacks Ajimobi's 21 Monarchs

Many Nigerians have come out on social media to express their joy at the court's verdict which declared unconstitutional and illegal the Commission of Inquiry recommending the elevation of some Ibadan high chiefs to Obas. The state government had on August 27, 2017, elevated some Ibadan high chiefs, except one and some district heads (Baales) as obas, an action which pitted them against Oba Saliu Adetunji, the Olubadan. The Osi Olubadan and former governor of the state, Chief Rashidi Ladoja, had filed a suit to challenge the propriety of the Justice Boade Commission of Inquiry. Reacting to the judgement, Dayo Williams, a journalist and social commentator expressed an unbridled joy at the development, noting that the ego of the state governor had been deflated.

"Excited to learn that Mr Constituted Authority's ego was constitutionally deflated by a high court in Oyo state today over his balkanization of the Olubadan of Ibadan's chieftaincy title. Those road side 'obas' without divine coronation should go beg the Olubadan.

I am sure he will accept them back into his fold. "High Chief Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja will be laughing in Swahili now. It is always good to be on the side of nobility all the time," he said on Facebook. "Mr Ajimobi can always retrace his steps lest he goes under with his oversized pride.

Not too late for him," he added. On his part, Steve Oyewole praised the judiciary for the judgement: He said: "Kudos to our upright and incorruptible Oyo state judiciary. I just pray the crop of politicians we have in this era won't set the nation ablaze for selfish and political parochial reasons. Shame on u all the political hooligans!".

Speaking on the court's verdict on Facebook, Olarenwaju Emmanuel hailed the judgement as a superb victory for democracy. "This is a superb victory over selfish political interest. Governor Ajimobi installed those 21 chiefs as kings, in return for them to help influence the people in their domain vote for whoever he presented as candidate to cover his atrocities. "Congratulations Olubadan and good people of Ibadan. This is a victory for democracy, he added.(source naij.com)

'We sold our home to build a social network'

Zoe Kleinman The Hughes family in Manchester have quit their jobs and put everything they own into building a social network aimed solely at sports fans. But can they take on the giants? "We see ourselves sitting at the top table with the big boys," says father Perry Hughes confidently. "We don't think we're taking on the competition." It might sound optimistic to put your family business in the same league as the multi-billion dollar social networks but the Hughes family certainly have the passion to give it a go. Their big idea is GameDay Xtra, which has the bold ambition of hosting a page for every single sports team and player in the world - with even the humblest of leagues able to share their own news. Son Sam, 21, has suspended his university studies and works through the night on the project. Daughter Mollie, 18, handles the social media side. GameDay is purely for sports fans, the family say.
