Breaking News: President Buhari meets Obasanjo in Addis Ababa

President Muhammadu Buhari and former President Olusegun Obasanjo met today, Sunday, January 28 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, at the opening session of the 30th African Union Summit. This is the first time both men are meeting since Obasanjo advised President Buhari not to re-contest in 2019 in a widely publicized letter. They both shook hands and talked for about two minutes in a short video posted by the president's aide, Bashir Ahmad, on Twitter. According to Daily Trust, a former head of state, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, later joined Buhari and Obasanjo for a snapshot. Obasanjo's letter to President Buhari is still a trending topic in the country. The former president had accused Buhari of nepotism and failure to revive the economy, among others. Meanwhile, the Abundant Nigeria Renewal Party (ANRP) has responded to Obasanjo’s call for Nigerians to gravitate towards a new political coalition that will replace the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and main oppo

Revealed: I will work with Jonathan but not

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has declared that he would never work with ex-President Goodluck Jonathan again as Nigeria’s president. Premium Times reports that he made his position known on Tuesday, January 23, in a letter he sent to President Muhammadu Buhari about 2019 election and the state of the nation. Obasanjo's letter, which x-rayed Buhari’s performance in office, has since gone viral as many Nigerians continue to subject its contents to diverse interpretations. The former president, who supported Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the 2015 presidential election, said his love for Nigeria and Jonathan’s lacklustre performance made him dump the PDP to support the APC. “All these led me to take the unusual step of going against my own political Party, PDP, in the last general election to support the opposite side. “I saw that action as the best option for Nigeria. As it has been revealed in the last three years or so,

According to Mohammaed, the Buhari-government had received Obasanjo’s message in good faith. It was noted that the minister further thanked the ex-president for his “positive comments”, even as he proceeded to set the record straight. The full statement read: “We have read the press statement by former President Olusegun Obasanjo on the State of the Nation. “For the record, Chief Obasanjo is a patriot, and he has proven this time and time again. We appreciate what he said concerning the administration’s performance in two out of the three key issues that formed the plank of its campaign: Fighting corruption and tackling insurgency. “Specifically, the former president said President Buhari must be given credit for his

Don't think of contesting in 2019 - Obasanjo tells President Buhari

In a statement: The Way Out: A Clarion Call for Coalition for Nigeria Movement, Obasanjo said President Buhari has performed far below expectation just as he added that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is not the solution to the country's challenges. Premium Times reports Obasanjo as asking Buhari to honourably dismount from the horse and join the league of former leaders whose experience, influence, wisdom and outreach can be deployed on the side line for the good of the country. Obasanjo said he was not excited with the way Buhari, who he supported during the 2015 general elections against Goodluck Jonathan, had handled the country. He said even Jonathan had come to realise that he made some mistakes and had publicly regretted them. “Even the horse rider then, with whom I maintain very cordial, happy and social relationship today has come to realise his mistakes and regretted it publicly and I admire his courage and forthrightness in this regard. “He has a

LG Display's 65-inch TV rolls up like wrapping paper

With the press of a button, LG Display's 65-inch screen slowly lowers into a box, rolling up around a solid core like wrapping paper. - The tech company showed off an impressive prototype of its latest rolling-screen technology at International CES 2018 in Las Vegas. Last year, it demoed a smaller 18-inch version that could fit in your back pocket. But now its latest -- and much larger -- display can roll up, too. The front of the 4k OLED display works and looks just like a regular TV screen. When rolled out, it's rigid and flat. The back is covered in small vertical slats, which allow it to curve for storage. The screen can also be rolled partially down to create different aspect ratios. A few inches of the display can be left up to show information like the weather or headlines. LG Display -- a research arm of LG Electronics, Corp -- focuses on developing innovative display technologies, which it then sells directly to display manufacturers that w

Punch reports that the spokesperson for the APC, Bolaji Abdullahi, said Tinubu and Akande would have been at the dinner with the president if there was a need for their presence. Abdullahi said although he is not sure of the criteria used in selecting top party members, there should not be much fuss over their absence. He said: “I don’t know what parameters they used to invite people to the meeting so I cannot say whether there was a reason why they (Tinubu and co) were not at the meeting.
