President Muhammadu Buhari and former President Olusegun Obasanjo met today, Sunday, January 28 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, at the opening session of the 30th African Union Summit. This is the first time both men are meeting since Obasanjo advised President Buhari not to re-contest in 2019 in a widely publicized letter. They both shook hands and talked for about two minutes in a short video posted by the president's aide, Bashir Ahmad, on Twitter. According to Daily Trust, a former head of state, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, later joined Buhari and Obasanjo for a snapshot. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has declared that he would never work with ex-President Goodluck Jonathan again as Nigeria’s president. Premium Times reports that he made his position known on Tuesday, January 23, in a letter he sent to President Muhammadu Buhari about 2019 election and the state of the nation. The Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government has issued a formal response to the attack on the president by ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, NAN reports. The Presidency gave its response on Wednesday, January 24, via the minister of information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed. According to Mohammaed, the Buhari-government had received Obasanjo’s message in good faith. It was noted that the minister further thanked the ex-president for his “positive comments”, even as he proceeded to set the record straight.
